Rope baskets, caddies, hampers and covers

A rope basket holds its shape when full and slumps when empty, which is a feature: it folds down to nothing in a cupboard between uses. Read the inside dimensions on the card rather than the outside ones: the outside of a basket tells you almost nothing about what you can put in it.

Caddies work on the same principle as a hanger. Once you have the pile off the floor and hanging from the bed frame or the arm of a sofa, the floor stays clear without you having to be tidy about it.
