Propagation glass: tubes, globes and the stands that hold them

A cutting in water needs three things and no more: a stem cut just below a node, water changed before it clouds, and bright light that is not direct sun. The Missouri Botanical Garden puts the useful cutting length at four to six inches. Everything Mkono makes for cuttings is sized around that, so you can cut once and drop the stem straight in.

Test tubes root a single stem and are easy to keep clean. Globes and bulb vases hold more water and go longer between changes, which suits a stem that will take six weeks. Put the rack on a wall at eye level and you watch the roots. Leave the jar behind the kettle and you forget it.
